Vegetarian or Vegan dog food to buy or recipes to make your own dog food?

I am looking for a kibble to buy but I also wonder about cooking healthy Vegetarian or Vegan food that both people and dogs can eat.Vegetarian or Vegan dog food to buy or recipes to make your own dog food?
ok, here. dogs have been eating meat since forever!!!!! they are desended from WOLVES!!! wolves eat MEAT!!!! so, therefor, dogs eat meat!!!!!!!!!!!Vegetarian or Vegan dog food to buy or recipes to make your own dog food?
Dogs can actually live quite well on a vegetarian diet (unlike cats).

I found some useful information on a website:

';Can dogs live healthy and active lives on a vegetarian or vegan diet? Yes! In fact, dogs can thrive on a vegetarian, or vegan diet, regardless of age, breed, or being genetically predisposed to any particular ailments. The fact is that it's 100% safe for ANY dog to subsist on an exclusively vegetarian or vegan diet, provided you follow the guidelines, as illustrated in this book . We have fed numerous dogs a completely vegetarian (vegan) diet for over 20 years now. All of our dogs have thrived and showed no evidence of malnutrition . In most cases, the dogs lived well beyond their normal life expectancy! Furthermore, numerous studies cited throughout this book give support to this practice. There is no scientifically known reason why dogs cannot live full, healthy lives on an exclusively vegetarian diet or vegan diet.';

I'm not sure about any foods you and your dog could eat together but there are companies that make vegetarian dog food and a quick google search will bring them up.

One thing I find funny are the people who want you to look at a dog's teeth. Well, have these people looked at their own teeth? Humans don't exactly have the best teeth for eating meat - I mean people have to even use tools to be able to eat meat.
Just because you are a vegan doesn't man your dog wants to be!

ADD

Have you tried googleing it?? I have heard of vegetarian dog food and I guess it is possible that you may have a dog with meat allergies. But I stand by what I said above! Also, don't be lazy...just google it!
As everyone else has said already you cannot cut meat out of a dog's diet all together it is an essential part of their diet and wellbeing, they require a COMPLETE and BALANCED diet.

But i would also like to add that dogs are not carnivores they are actually omnivores. In periods of famine dogs can vary their diet and resort to eating fruits and other plant material in the means for absolute survival.

Don't humanise your dog to suit your lifestyle as a matter of convenience.
This is a great question and you should do your research very carefully! Everyone is going to have their opinion but that does not mean it is the right food for your dog. I just lost my seven year old German Shephard to cancer and that is when I went searching for the cause. I came across a website on the internet that shocked me into disbelief that I probably had poisoned my dog to death and didn't even know it. Most dog foods are loaded with hidden poisons and other obsenities I still have a hard time grasping. I am going to give you the website address so you can read this report and learn what is really in commercial dog foods and you can make an educated decision like I did on which dog food to buy! I wish you all the best!

Dogs are carnivores. Their digestive tracts are designed differently than ours are. They really do need to eat meat. Sorry.

Mine eat Timberwolf Organics - that may be a good compromise for you?
Dogs cannot be vegetarians, they NEED meat. Consult a vet if you don't believe me. Forcing a dog to be a vegetarian is actually cruel.
Look at your dog's teeth. Do you seen ANY tooth in there that looks like it was meant to chew veggies? Well FYI all dog's teeth are pointed, meant for shredding, ripping, and tearing MEAT.
Dogs are carnivorous. If you want to go that rout for your self, so be it. However it is NOT healthy for your dog.
Finding the right dog food is indeed a concern for all pet owners, as much of the dog food available on store shelves, as you may already know, is not good for dogs, in fact, most of it is harmful.

I discovered this a few years back when dateline did a special on it and interviewed Andrew Lewis, who is a leading expert and opponent of mass produced dog food on the market. He is also the author of an excellent book which I purchased called ';Dog Food Secrets'; which details the poor quality of dog food, how it literally kills dogs slowly, because they cannot handle the ingredients(preservatives and other chemicals) present in dog food today. He describes how his beagle, Noble, died at only 4 years old(had to be put down) from contracting kidney failure from commercial dog food.

It also includes easy recipes for homemade halthy dog food which your dog will go crazy over(I wouldn't try it, but my Maltese(Bobo) seems to love it).

I thoroghly recommend this product to every dog owner, as it is extremely detailed and documented 鈥?AND it is dedicated to breeds too 鈥?so, it talks to the specific needs of most popular breeds.

You also get 60 dog food recipes, and a bunch of other stuff not advertised, such as a list of recommended dog food companies if you dont want to make it yourself, and much more.

The whole package used to be $57(it was when I bought it), but he is only selling it for $27 on sale right now.

It is well worth the investment I put into it, being cheaper than any vet bill I had to pay, and you save a lot of money in the long run. Plus, there is a 60 day guarantee, so that means you only part with like $0.90 cents a day, just to try it out.

The bottom line is, I purchased it because I don't wanna hurt my little friend, nor do I want to see him leave me early. I would feel terrible knowing I fed him the wrong things. It comes down to a choice, Do you love your dog enough to stop feeding him things which cause a slow death, or add 6-8 years to his lifespan by feeding him/her the proper nutrition that the dog needs?

The link to see this ebook is in the resource box, as well as a video about it.
Vegetarian?!? Vegan!?!

What on Earth are doing to this poor animal. Dogs are carnivores; from the Latin (TO EAT MEAT). Dogs digestive systems can tolerate some of the vegetables and other crap that we force on them but ultimately they need some form of meat to be healthy and survive. The same for humans but we have free choice and a digestive system that can handle a none meat diet if forced to.

If you want a Vegan household get rid of the dog before you kill it. E-mail me and I'll be glad to help you adopt it out to someone that will not harm it.
Never seen a dog food out there with no meat in it so why are you looking into making your dog a vegetarian. The main protein in a dogs diet however does come from meat and i wouldn't completely take meat out of a dogs diet.
Not another one!! This is the second question in two days about feeding vegan foods to dogs AAAGGGHHH!!

Your dog is a carnivore, in fact a sub-species of the grey wolf. Would you feed a wolf on tofu and sprouts?? Probably not, so why try to feed your dog such an inappropriate diet?

By classification, dentition, genetics and anatomy your dog is a CARNIVORE - feed it that way or buy a rabbit!!

** What a dog CAN eat and what they SHOULD be eating for the vast majority of their diet is a very different thing - thrive vs survive. And just because a dog (or wolf) may choose to eat some fruit or berries for pleasure or some other vegetation in times of hardship does NOT make it an omnivore. A dog has a body:digestive system ratio of 1:7 while a sheep is 1:27. If a dog was supposed to eat vegetation then surely its digestive tract would be a least comparable to that of a sheep.

http://paleodiet.com/comparison.html

Wld dogs and wolves do NOT eat stomach contents of their prey. This is a fallacy. The only time they may do so is for very small animals - rats, rabbits, birds etc - but even then they often leave the intestines and full stomach. see the myths link

A chart showing the differences between human, dog and sheep digestive systems.

http://paleodiet.com/comparison.html
Dogs are CARNIVORES. humans are the only creatures who choose to their diets on their own. Your dog needs meat based protein. Unless your dog is allergic to ALL and I mean ALL meat sources on the face of the planet there is absolutely no reason for you to put your dietary habits on your animal.

A dog's digestive system is not designed to handle plant matter in large quantities. Breaking down vegetable matter actually forces to pancreas to work more than normal.

Most Vegan dog foods utilize soy as a protein source - many dogs are allergic to soy.

Stick to a good meat based kibble.
Dogs are carnivores, they need a meat-based diet to thrive.

Trying to force your dog to be vegetarian or vegan is SELFISH. As a pet owner, you should be concerned with doing what is best for your pet.

If you are unwilling to give your pet proper care, including proper diet, then you should re-home it to someone who will.

=== ===

For choosing a kibble

1) Look for high meat content. You want to see preferably at least 2-3 out of the top 5 ingredients be meat or meat meal (first ingredient must be!). Meal is simply the meat with the moisture removed.

2) Look for higher quality grains, such as barley, brown rice, and oatmeal, instead of seeing wheat and corn. Or an alternative starch/carbohydrate such as potatoes or sweet potatoes.

3) Avoid any byproducts.

4) Avoid a lot of fillers (brewers rice, beet pulp).

5) Avoid preservatives that are believed to be carcinogens (BHA, BHT, ethoxyquin).

6) Avoid artificial colorings such as the Red, Blue, and Yellow dyes.

7) Avoid added sugars (sugar, corn syrup).

8) Avoid mystery meats (meats identified only as ';meat'; or ';poultry';.)

Check this website; I prefer to stay in the 5-star rated foods (high quality and most have the appropriate protein level for my dog, I feed around 25% protein usually).

http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/dog_food_鈥?/a>

.
Dogs are not herbivores, they are carnivores. A dog that eats meals with no meat are prone to get sick. You may have made the decision to become vegan, but don't make your dog become one too.

I am a member of a raw feeding group, and there are vegans that feed raw to their pets. They don't like it, but even they know that dogs and cats are carnivores and need meat in their diet.
Dogs are actually omnivores. They eat both meat and veggies. There are some vegetarian dog foods out there. Honestly, I wouldn't try to make snacks both people and dogs can eat and be good for both. That is a good thought, though. Good Luck.

Three sisters stew

In Native American mythology, squash, corn, and beans are known as of the ';three sisters.'; These are the very crops, along with garden vegetables, that the harvest festival of Thanksgiving is meant to celebrate!

1 small sugar pumpkin or 1 large butternut or carnival squash (about 2 pounds)

1 tablespoon olive oil

1 medium onion, chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

1/2 medium green or red bell pepper, cut into short, narrow strips

14- to 16-ounce can diced tomatoes, with liquid

2 cups cooked or canned pinto beans

2 cups corn kernels (from 2 large or 3 medium ears)

1 cup homemade or canned vegetable stock, or water

1 or 2 small fresh hot chiles, seeded and minced

1 teaspoon each: ground cumin, dried oregano

Salt and freshly ground black pepper

3 to 4 tablespoons minced fresh cilantro

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.

Cut the pumpkin or squash in half lengthwise and remove the seeds and fibers. Cover with aluminum foil and place the halves, cut side up, in a foil-lined shallow baking pan. Bake for 40 to 50 minutes, or until easily pierced with a knife but still firm (if using squash, prepare the same way). When cool enough to handle, scoop out the pulp, and cut into large dice. Set aside until needed.

Heat the oil in a soup pot. Add the onion and saut茅 over medium-low heat until translucent. Add the garlic and continue to saut茅 until the onion is golden.

Add the pumpkin and all the remaining ingredients except the last 2 and bring to a simmer. Simmer gently, covered, until all the vegetables are tender, about 20 to 25 minutes. Season to taste with salt and pepper.

If time allows, let the stew stand for 1 to 2 hours before serving, then heat through as needed. Just before serving, stir in the cilantro. The stew should be thick and very moist but not soupy; add additional stock or water if needed. Serve in shallow bowls.

What does ' All purpose flour' mean in Baking recipes?

Used for all purposes! :)What does ' All purpose flour' mean in Baking recipes?
It means that the flour doesn't have any kind of additives in it. Also when your recipe calls for the ';all purpose'; flour you will need to add baking soda or baking powder. The other flour is called ';self rising';. It has the baking powder and salt already added. It's only a shortcut if you're lazy like me and don't want to measure the salt and baking powder. Lol!!!!What does ' All purpose flour' mean in Baking recipes?
Yes all flour comes from wheat.there are several different types of flour. The All purpose means it does not have any baking powders or salt in it.Self rising has the baking powders and salt added...
normal plain flour is usually known as all purpose because u can make it into any other type of flour

Swiss Steak Recipe courtesy Paula Deen (like my aunt used to make)

1 round steak (approximately 1 1/2 pounds), see note

    1 teaspoon garlic powder

    Salt and pepper

    All-purpose flour, for dusting

    1/3 cup vegetable oil

    2 cloves garlic, crushed

1 (14-1/2 ounce) can diced tomatoes

1 medium onion, cut into strips

1 medium bell pepper, cut into strips

Cut steak into serving-size pieces. Season, to taste, with garlic powder and salt and pepper. Dust meat with flour. In heavy skillet, brown both sides of meat in vegetable oil. Transfer to Dutch oven. Combine garlic, tomatoes, onion, bell pepper, and 1 tomato-can measure of water. Pour over steak and simmer until meat is tender, about 7 to 9 hours. Season, to taste, with additional salt and pepper. Hint: Cook this in a slow-cooker on low for a most fabulous dinner. Low heat on a slow cooker is about 200 degrees F and high heat on a slow cooker is about 300 degrees F.

Note: to ensure tenderness, it is necessary to have the butcher run the round steak through a cuber.Any tasty recipes to have with egg noodles?

Here is a REALLY GOOD CAKE..enjoy. you can put chocolate icing instead if you like that better.

    1 cup unsalted butter, softened

    2 cups sugar

4 large eggs, at room temperature

1 1/2 cups self rising flour

    1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour

    1 cup milk

    1 teaspoon vanilla

    Buttercream Frosting

1 cup unsalted butter, very soft

    8 cups confectioners' sugar

    1/2 cup milk

    2 teaspoons vanilla

    Preheat oven to 350掳.

Grease and lightly flour three 9 inch round cake pans, then line the bottoms with waxed paper.

In a large bowl, on the medium speed of an electric mixer, cream the butter until smooth.

Add the sugar gradually and beat until fluffy, about 3 minutes.

Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.

Combine the flours and add in four parts, alternating with the milk and the vanilla extract, beating well after each addition.

Divide batter among the cake pans.

Bake for 20 to 25 minutes or until a cake tester inserted into center of cake comes out clean.

Let cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes.

Remove from pans and cool completely on wire rack.

If you're making cupcakes, line two 12-cup muffin tins with cupcake papers.

Spoon the batter into the cups about three-quarters full.

Bake until the tops spring back when lightly touched, about 20 to 22 minutes.

Remove cupcakes from pans and cool completely on a rack before icing.

When cake has cooled, ice between the layers, then ice top and sides of cake.

To make the icing - place the butter in a large mixing bowl.

Add 4 cups of the sugar and then the milk and vanilla.

    Beat until smooth and creamy.

Gradually add the remaining sugar, 1 cup at a time, until icing is thick enough to be of good spreading consistency (you may very well not need all of the sugar).

If desired, add a few drops of food coloring and mix thoroughly.

Use and store icing at room temperature, as icing will set if chilled.

Can store in an airtight container for up to three days.Do You Know Any Good B-Day Cake Recipes For A 15 year old?
Do you like pineapple? Or apples? Or oranges? Use either or these fruit as filling for your birthday cake. You can also use chocolate. And lots of whipped cream. Around a kilogram. It's delicious!!!

If you want the birthday cake big, use 10 eggs, ten spoons of flour and ten spoons of sugar. Mix them to obtain a dough you put in the oven. When you take it you, cut it in two or three pieces, then fill each piece with fruit, and at the top and around it use the kilogram of whipped cream.
In high school, we always liked funfetti cakes (from the box) with funfetti frosting. It's like vanilla/white cake with different colored vanilla chips.
    Chocolate Cake with Vanilla Buttercream

    1 cup boiling-hot water

    3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

    1/2 cup whole milk

    1 teaspoon vanilla

    2 cups all-purpose flour

    1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda

    Rounded 1/2 teaspoon salt

2 sticks (1 cup) unsalted butter, softened

2 cups packed dark brown sugar

4 large eggs at room temperature for 30 minutes

    4 cups vanilla buttercream

    Make cake layers:

Put oven rack in middle position and preheat oven to 350 F. Butter 2 (9- by 2-inch) round cake pans and line bottom of each with a round of wax paper. Butter paper and dust pans with flour, knocking out excess.

Whisk together hot water and cocoa powder in a bowl until smooth, then whisk in milk and vanilla.

Whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt in another bowl.

Beat together butter and brown sugar in a large bowl with an electric mixer at medium-high speed until pale and fluffy, 3 to 5 minutes. Add eggs 1 at a time, beating well after each addition. Reduce speed to low and add flour and cocoa mixtures alternately in batches, beginning and ending with flour mixture (batter may look curdled).

Divide batter between cake pans, smoothing tops. Bake until a wooden pick or skewer comes out clean and edges of cake begin to pull away from sides of pans, 25 to 35 minutes total. Cool layers in pans on racks 10 minutes, then invert onto racks, removing wax paper, and cool completely.

    Assemble cake:

Put 1 cake layer, rounded side up, on a cake stand or platter and, using offset spatula, spread top with about 1 cup buttercream. Top with remaining cake layer, rounded side down, and frost side and top of cake with 2 cups buttercream.

    Decorate cake:

For each color (you can make up to 5), transfer 3 tablespoons buttercream to a separate small bowl and tint with food coloring. Snip off 1 corner of each plastic bag to create a 1/4-inch opening, then spoon each color of buttercream into a bag, pressing out excess air. Twist each bag firmly just above buttercream, then decoratively pipe colored buttercream onto cake. Chill cake until buttercream is set, about 30 minutes.

Just before serving, arrange 6 to 8 mini cupcakes on top of cake in 1 layer, then stack remaining mini cupcakes on top.
    Coconut Pecan Cake

    4 eggs

    3 cups sugar, divided

    1 cup vegetable oil

    3 teaspoon coconut extract

    3 cups all purpose flour

    1/2 teaspoon baking powder

    1/2 teaspoon salt

    1 cup buttermilk

    1 cup flaked coconut

    1 cup pecans, chopped

    1/2 cup water

    2 tablespoon butter

    confectioners sugar

In a mixing bowl, combine eggs, 2 cups sugar, oil and 2 teaspoon extract, mix well. Combine flour, baking powder and salt, add to egg mixture alternately with buttermilk just until moistened. Stir in coconut and pecans. Spoon into a well greased 10 inch tube pan. Bake at 350 for 60 to 70 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean.

Meanwhile, in a saucepan, combine the water, butter and remaining sugar. Bring to a boil, cook for 5 minutes. Remove from the heat, add remaining extract. Slowly pour hot syrup over hot cake. Cool in pan for 4 hours before removing to serving plate. Dust with confectioners sugar.
Please trust my recipe. You'll thank me for it:

    1 cup melted unsalted butter

    2 cups caster sugar

    2 cups boiling water

    1 cup cocoa powder

    4 eggs

    1 teaspoon vanilla

2 and 3/4 cup flour plain

    1 pack of baking powder

Use a large bowl to start by putting the sugar+melted butter and beat by the electric beater. then add the eggs one by one and keep beating but not for long. Add the cocoa to the boiling water then start adding it to the mixing bowl together with the flour and beat continuously. At the end add the vanilla and baking powder and beat all. Don't worry the mixture will look very liquid to you. Fill it into 2 cake pans previously greased and put in moderate oven for around 40 minutes. Check after 40 minutes it might need to stay a bit longer depending on your oven strength. its ready when it's not liquid any longer from the center of it.

When it totally cools serve them and may add chocolate icing on top. Enjoy.

    Always Moist Pound Cake

1 (18.25-ounce) package Duncan Hines brand all butter cake mix *

    4 large eggs

    3/4 cup vegetable oil

    1/2 cup granulated sugar

8 ounces (1 cup) sour cream

    1 teaspoon vanilla extract

All ingredients should be at room temperature.

    Preheat oven to 350*F (175*C).

Combine cake mix, oil, sour cream and sugar. Add eggs one at a time until thoroughly mixed. Stir in vanilla.

Spray (or grease) bundt pan and sugar coat the inside of pan (this creates the crisp crust found on the old fashioned pound cakes). Pour batter into prepared pan and bake for approximately 45 minutes or until cake test is done.

    Makes 12 servings.

    * I have substituted other flavor mixes using same added ingredients as this one, and they are just as good. I like this one because of the butter flavor. I've also added lemon extract instead of the vanilla and it adds a wonderful flavor.
    INGREDIENTS:

solid vegetable shortening, for greasing the pan

1 C. all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting the pan

8 T. (1 stick) butter, at room temperature

    1/2 C. vegetable oil

    1 C. sugar

    5 large eggs

1 pkg. (18.25 oz.) plain yellow cake mix

1 container (8 oz.) sour cream, at room temperature

    1 C. evaporated milk

    1 T. pure vanilla extract

    PREPARATION:

Place a rack in the center of the oven and preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Lightly grease a 10-inch tube pan with vegetable shortening; then dust it with flour. Shake out the excess flour. Set the tube pan aside.

Place the butter and oil in a large mixing bowl and beat with an electric mixer on medium-low speed until creamy, 1 minute. Add the sugar and beat until creamy, 1 to 2 minutes longer. Add the eggs, one at a time, beating each until the yolks of the eggs have just been incorporated. Stop the machine and scrape down the side of the bowl with a rubber spatula.

Add cake mix, 1 cup of flour, and sour cream, evaporated milk, and vanilla. Increase the mixer speed to medium and beat until the batter is thick and well blended, 1 1/2 to 2 minutes longer, scraping down the side of the bowl if necessary.

Pour the batter into the prepare tube pan, smoothing it out with a rubber spatula. Bake the cake until it is golden brown and springs back when lightly pressed with a finger, 60 to 65 minutes.

Remove the tube pan from the oven and place it on a wire rack to cool for 20 minutes.

Run a dinner knife around the edge of the cake, shake it gently to loosen it, and invert onto a rack, then invert it again onto another rack so that the cake is right side up. Allow the cake to cool completely, 20 minutes longer
I love this one. I usually use a little bit of orange, but you can use lemon or no fruit at all if you don't like the tangy flavor. It's alos not to heavy, which I think is nice.

1 3/4 cups (230 grams) cake flour, sifted

    2 teaspoons baking powder

    1/8 teaspoon salt

1 cup (226 grams) (2 sticks) unsalted butter, room temperature

1 cup (200 grams) superfine or castor sugar

    4 large eggs, room temperature

    2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract

Zest of a lemon or orange (optional)

reheat oven to 350 degrees F and place rack in center of oven. Butter or spray with a pan spray, a 9 x 5 x 3 inch loaf pan. Line the bottom of the pan with parchment paper and butter or spray the paper. Set aside while you prepare the batter.

In a large bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.

Beat the butter until creamy and smooth. Gradually add the sugar, beating continuously on medium-high speed until light and fluffy (this will take about 5 minutes). Scrape down the sides of the bowl as needed. After about five minutes the batter should be light in color and fluffy in texture. Then add the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Scrape down the sides of the bowl as needed. You will notice that the batter will look curdled. Don't worry as the batter will come together again after you add the flour mixture. Add the vanilla and lemon zest, if using, and beat until incorporated.

Add the flour mixture and mix just until incorporated. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top.

Bake for about 50 to 60 minutes or until the cake is golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

    I hope you like it.
    1 1/2 cups butter

    Preheat oven to 300掳F.

Cream butter, cream cheese and sugar together.

Add eggs one at a time.

Add vanilla and then flour slowly.

    MISO SOUP

A traditional Japanese breakfast is egg in miso soup. In grocery stores you can find instant miso soup. All that is required is boiling some water (2/3 cup-takes no time at all), cracking an egg into it, pouring in the miso soup instant powder, covering, turning on low-or removing from the flame and let it sit for 10 minutes or so.

The other great thing is that you can add whatever vegetables or meats you have around the fridge to bulk it up to a desired level.

My polish recipes call for Maggi. What is it?

It sounds like a seasoning, but I've never seen it or heard of it. Can I substitute something for it?My polish recipes call for Maggi. What is it?
I am a former chef and have used it, similar to the UK marmite it is an all purpose seasoning not SOYA sauce.

It is a concentrated mix of veg, depending on the brand the yellow or red label can have a meat extract, like the powdered Vegita, it is used for seasoning, sauces, soups and meat dishes.

I like it along with the Knorr Aromat for a mix with other seasoning in alot of my dishes. It is a bit salty so remember to tone down your final seasoning until serving time, as excess it difficult to remove after adding. My polish recipes call for Maggi. What is it?
maggi sauce is like soy sauce
Maggi is very German! My husband uses it on loads of foods. I guess it is rather like soy sauce, only stronger. You could probably search on the internet and find companies that sell it.
Maggi is a brand of soy sauce. It is a bit lighter in taste than the other common brands of soy sauce.
    Like soy sauce

It's a dark, salty liquid used often to season e.g. soups. Quite popular in Poland.

    Chinese Walnut Chicken

Chicken breasts strips are stir-fried with scallions, ginger and garlic, and seasoned with bourbon and soy sauce.Ingredients:

    鈥?1 teaspoon cornstarch

    鈥?1 Tablespoon water

    鈥?1 egg white, beaten

鈥?4 skinless, boneless chicken breasts, cut into one-inch cubes

    鈥?3 Tablespoons soy sauce

    鈥?1 Tablespoon bourbon

    鈥?1/2 teaspoon sugar

    鈥?4 Tablespoons oil

鈥?3 whole scallions, cut into 2-inch slivers

    鈥?2 slices fresh ginger, minced

    鈥?1 medium garlic clove, minced

    鈥?3/4 cup coarsely chopped walnuts

    鈥?Hot cooked rice

    Method:

In a bowl, mix together cornstarch, water and egg white. Add chicken and toss until thoroughly mixed. In a small bowl, combine soy sauce, bourbon and sugar. Set aside. Heat a wok or large heavy skillet over high heat until a drop of water ';skittles'; across and evaporates immediately. Add 2 Tablespoons of oil, swirl, and add chicken. Quickly stir-fry 3 to 5 minutes or until no pink shows. Quickly remove from pan and set aside. Reduce heat to medium-high and add the remaining oil to pan. Add scallions, ginger and garlic; stir-fry for 1 minute. Return chicken to pan. Add soy sauce/bourbon mixture and cook, stirring, about 1 minute. Stir in walnuts, mix well and serve with hot cooked rice.

    Notes:

One tablespoon of bourbon is the secret ingredient in this recipe. But since nobody in our family drinks, I buy the smallest bottle of bourbon possible and keep it in my seasoning and flavoring cabinet among the vanilla extract, maple syrup and spice blends. It won't spoil and keeps forever.

    Salmon croquettes

    14oz cold mashed potato

14oz canned red or pink salmon, drained

    1 teasp grated lemon (optional)

    1/2 oz melted butter

    Salt %26amp; Pepper

    1 tabsp chopped Parsley

    1 beaten egg

    For Frying

    2 eggs

    dried breadcrumbs

    Vegetable oil for frying

    Method

Mix all the Salmon croquette ingredients together in a bowl.

Cover a baking sheet or large plate with cling film.

Take a small handful of the croquette receipe* and shape into fat discs about the size of your palm, (there should be enough to make about 8)

Pop each one onto the cling film and refrigerate for up to 1 hour or until firm.

Beat the 2 eggs in a shallow bowl and pour the breadcrumbs either onto a plate, or do as I do, save on washing up and mess, just put them into a plastic bag.

Dip each salmon croquet into the egg and roll around the breadcrumbs (if you鈥檝e put the breadcrumbs into a bag pop the croquet inside, close the top and shake until covered). Continue until all the croquettes are covered.

Heat the vegetable oil in a frying pan and when hot fry the croquettes on each side until golden.Any good recipes for canned salmon?
    Salmon pie:

Combine large can of salmon with about 2 cups mashed potatoes and a couple tablespoons chopped dill. Add a tablespoon of dijon mustard if you have it. Sautee a medium sized onion and add it to the mixture. Add a pinch of salt and pepper. Mix together until salmon is very finely broken up. Cook inside a crust until the crust is golden brown.

This is a favortie French-Canadian recipe in my family. I actually like it a little better with fresh salmon, but canned salmon works just fine too.
salmon patties. take the salmon from the can. take the bones out of the middle, and the skin from the outside. Mix it with one egg, per can, bread crumbs, chopped onions and seasoning. fry in a skillet with just a little oil. Enjoy.

A couple of eggs, crush some saltines (or you could use bread crumbs), you cal also cut up celery if you like-mix together with salmon in a bowl and form into a pattie. Fry in pan over mediuam heat to create-salmon burger or salmon patty. Yummy!
Many of the recipes look almost the same....but the one ingredient that makes a salmon patty the best is cornmeal

Remove all bones and skin from large can of salmon

2 TBLS minced dried onion--OR small onion finely diced by hand

    3/4 cup self rising cornmeal

    2 eggs, well beaten

    1/4 tsp black pepper

Stir all ingredient together very well.....shape into golf ball size balls.....flatten between palms to about 1/2 - 3/4 inch thick

Heat extra virgin olive oil....about 1/4 cup in skillet....Fry patties on each med high heat....Cook on each side until crunchy and browned
    saute garlic, onion and tomatoes...

add in the salmon, salt and pepper

then squeeze in about 1/4 juice of a lemon..

you can serve it with saltines, or steamed rice

*opt. add some fried cubed potatoes

    goodluck
here is another French Canadian one,

smush the salmon and cook it in a warm pan sprayed with cooking spray or butter, use some of the salmon juice and shake up with a bit of lemon juice and cornstarch...it makes a sort of gravy...

serve with some mashed potatoes and peas and you have a quick supper, season as desired with dill, sea salt and fresh cracked black pepper...

    1 TBS sugar

2 TBS extra virgin olive oil

approx 4 cups flour (unbleached and/or whole wheat)

    2 tsp salt

Let the yeast dissolve in the water, evoo, sugar and salt until foamy (about five minutes). Add the flour until the dough forms a stiff ball on your dough hook. The dough should be slightly sticky, but firm. This takes about 5 minutes on medium on a Kitchen Aid. Coat with EVOO and cover loosely in a warm place until doubled in size (about 90 minutes). Punch down and let re-rise until doubled. Spread on your pizza pan and coat with evoo. Top with sauce, cheese and toppings. Cook at 450 for about 12 minutes.Any good recipes for pizza dough?
Making good pizza is not really difficult, but if you simply follow any recipe on the internet without knowing the little details that need some care and application, you will end up with soggy matzos and cheese. Don't bother.

If you want your son to end up with something really good, and it could be as good as, if not better, anything in a restaurant, you need to know the little tips and tricks.

We started making our own pizza a couple of months ago, and it was not a success. We only started getting it right once we found some proper guidelines, rather than useless recipes that did not explain how to actually make it. Have a look at http://www.the-pizza-gourmet.com/ya003, and you should have a happy result. There is quite a bit to learn, but it is worth it. Things like ingredients, oven temp, dough preparation etc., are ignored at your own peril.

Enjoy it - great to have the kids involved.

    Try www.gayleafoods.com.
go to http://www.kraftfoods.com When you put cream cheese in the search bar you get over 1200 hits. However, you don't really need recipes. You can mix in pineapple, onion soup mix, (one of my favorites for bagels or toasted baguettes. One of our favorites is sausage with bacon (you can buy it in a 1 lb roll) a little oregano and cream cheese. Soften the cheese and add the cooked and drained bacon sausage and a bit of oregano. Mix it well and refrigerate. It's great on crackers, bagels, toast and rolled up inside boneless, skinless, chicken breasts.

You can mix fruit flavored yogurt, pineapple, strawberries, bacon, salsa, just about anything.
Try mixing cream cheese with crushed walnuts, brown sugar %26amp; cinnimon. Its really great on a bagel.

Near the end, add in some salsa (use your favorite) or even taco sauce.

in my house we boil the potatoes then we take the skin off . the next step is to mash it and make it into a ball shape.

If you like if fried you can fry it in the ball shape.

If you like mashed potatoes just add the things you like to it and maybe add salt and black pepper to it. And of corse put butter to it. if you like nice french fries you can boil it then cut them into the size of french fries you like them. them fry them and have ketchup and you have a goooooooooooooooooooooooooood meal there.

In french fries or chips; depending upon where you come from. Nothing beats fried potatoes with vinegar and salt, tartar sauce, or ketchup!
My family has a couple of favorites!

1: In a foil pouch add sliced potatoes, sliced onion, garlic, green pepper, salt and pepper. Take two tablespoons of butter and cut into pieces and distribute in pouch. Close the foil pouch and place them on a medium grill about 10-15 mins before you start the main corse. Remove to warmer while cooking meat.

You can also place the foil pouches in the oven for about 20 - 30 mins. (350 F)

2: Cube potatoes (and this is really good with both white or sweet potatoes) For every 3 cups of potatoes place in a plastic bag. Add in 1/4 cup of oil and one envelope of Onion soup mix. Dump into a 9x13 cake pan, laying them out in a single layer. Cook them for about thirty minutes or until tender. (350 F)

    One more:

3:This is for either white or sweet potatoes. Cut into fries. Place on a foil lined cookie sheet in a single layer. Brush with melted butter. The white potatoes you can sprinkle with garlic salt or reg salt or if you have a favorite seasoning, like all spice (my sisters favorite) adn bake them for 30-40 mins or until tender (350 F) The sweet potatoes I brush with the butter and then salt and cook them 20 to 30 mins at 350 F. Sweet potatoes, even though they are harder to cut up cook faster.

*Sweet potatoes: we usually buy yams because they are not as stringy.

I hope you are able to try some of these and enjoy them as much as we do!

    * 1/4 cup vegetable shortening, cut into pieces

    * 1/2 tsp. salt

    * 1/2 tsp. baking powder

    * 3/4 cup warm water

In a bowl, blend flour, salt, baking powder and shortening until it resembles fine meal.

Add warm water, a little at a time, to flour mixture and toss until liquid is incorporated. Water amountwill vary with different flour types.

Form dough into a ball and kneed on a floured surface until dough is smooth and elastic. Divide, and make 12 smaller balls. Cover and let stand at least 30 minutes.

    Cooking Tortilla:

Roll each ball of dough on a floured surface to make 6 or 7 inch sized tortillas. Place on a pre-heated griddle or cast iron skillet and cook till medium golden on both sides.

Remove to a basket lined with a cloth towel or put between a towel until cool. After the tortillas have cooled completely, store themin a plastic bag. This recipe will make approximately 12 flour tortillas.

    Corn Tortillas

2 cups Masa or Instant Masa (or Corn Meal)

1 1/3 cup Water (more or less as needed)

Mix together masa and enough water to form a soft dough. Knead on a surface sprinkled lightly with extra masa until smooth and elastic.

Divide dough into 15 equal portions and shape into balls. Cover with plastic wrap or a damp kitchen cloth

Roll out a portion to a 15 cm - 18 cm diameter between two pieces of waxed paper, or pat out by hand to form a tortilla. Repeat with remaining portions.

Keep tortillas soft, covered with damp kitchen cloth, until required. Preheat a heavy-based fry pan over a medium heat.

Cook tortillas for about 30 sec each side or until speckled and cooked through. Stack cooked tortillas in a basket or bowl and cover to keep them warm and flexible.Looking for recipes to make flour tortillas?
    Homemade Flour Tortillas:

    30 min 30 min prep

    12 tortillas

    3-4 cups all-purpose flour

    1 teaspoon salt

    2 teaspoons baking powder

    1/2 cup shortening

    1-1 1/2 cup warm water

    1. Combine the 3 cups flour, salt and baking powder in large bowl.

    2. Either by hand, or with pastry blender, work in the shortening until crumbly (you can add a little more shortening if the mixture looks too floury).

    3. Slowly add the water (I start with 1 cup and add more as needed) to flour mixture while tossing with a fork.

    4. With your hands, knead dough vigorously for about 2 minutes, until it forms a nice dough ball.

    5. Cover with cloth and let stand at least 15 minutes.

    6. Take a ball of dough (golf ball size for small, slightly more for bigger tortillas) and roll into a ball.

    7. Roll in flour to cover.

    8. On floured surface, roll out dough evenly and very thin.

    9. Place each tortilla on a medium hot cast iron skillet.

    10. Cook for about 1-2 minutes on each side, or until the tortilla no longer looks doughy.

    11. NOTE: the ingredients are fairly accurate, but feel free to adjust to get the correct consistency.
