you see i have a tree but we never eat them and there such nice looking grape fruits.What can i do with my grape fruits,any recipes for drinks or anything,?
My son peels and freezes them, then makes a slushie with strawberries (frozen too), guava concentrate and grapefruit that is wonderful!





Grapefruit is nice in salads, especially with avocado.

Get some yeast and make wine, or make jelly, jam, grape hull preserves or such. You can use the juice as a healthy drink. Experiment with mixing it with other juices, you could make a wonderful creation that has never been tried before.

GRAPE FRUIT MARMALADE


Juice of several squeezed grape fruits


Grate 2 or 3 of the skins


Add equal amount of sugar - cup for cup sugar and juice


1 bottle pectin


Add grated rind


Bring to slow boil. Test as for jelly. Fills very easy. Great taste





SHRIMP AND GRAPE FRUIT SALAD


1/2 grapefruit, peeled and sectioned


3 oz. cooked and peeled shrimp, about 1/2 c.


1/4 c. thinly sliced cucumber, unpeeled


1/4 avocado, peeled, cubed and brushed with grapefruit juice


Lettuce leaves


Cut grapefruit sections into 1 inch pieces. Combine grapefruit, shrimp, and cucumber; cover and chill 30-60 minutes. Toss avocado with grapefruit mixture. Serve on a bed of lettuce. Makes 1 serving.





BAKED PINK GRAPEFRUIT

coconut rum


chocolate chips


whipped cream





Preheat oven to 400.





Cut grapefruit in half, prepare as if you were going to eat with a spoon. Place in ovenproof bowl, pour 1 tablespoon rum over each half, sprinkle with a little sugar, let set for a while.





Heat fruit thoroughly, about 10 min, remove from oven, add a few chocolate chips, whipped cream, serve.

RIO GRANDE VALLEY GRAPEFRUIT PIE


1 (9';) baked pie shell


32 marshmallows, regular size


1/2 c. grapefruit juice


1 c. heavy cream, could use Dream Whip


2 1/2 c. fresh grapefruit sections


1/4 c. shredded coconut





Cut marshmallows in quarters and melt them in 1/4 cup heated grapefruit juice. Cool to room temperature. Add remaining 1/4 cup juice to the grapefruit sections. Whip cream. Fold cooled marshmallows, grapefruit, and cream together. Pour into pie shell. Allow to set about 3 hours. Sprinkle coconut over pie just before serving.





SWEET AND SOUR GRAPEFRUIT CAKE


1 lg. pkg. yellow cake mix


2 fresh grapefruit


2 eggs


1 lb. pkg. marshmallows


Yellow food color (optional)


Maraschino cherries





Section grapefruits and drain juice for use in cake batter. Save sections to garnish cake. Prepare cake mix according to package. Substitute grapefruit juice for water. Bake in two 9 inch round pans. Allow cake to cool before frosting.





Melt marshmallows in double boiler. Add few drops of yellow food coloring and stir in 1/2 cup grapefruit juice. Allow to cool slightly and spread on cake layers after baking. Garnish with fresh grapefruit sections and maraschino cherries. Makes 12 servings.





AVOCADO - GRAPEFRUIT SALAD


Prepare leaves of Romaine lettuce. Peel avocados and grapefruits. Arrange wedges of each on the Romaine lettuce leaves. Serve with poppy seed dressing.





CANDIED GRAPEFRUIT PEEL


Cut grapefruit hulls in thin slices, measure by cupfuls before boiling; cover with water and boil 20 minutes. After it strikes a boil, drain and reheat until it has been boiled 3 times.





Place in saucepan, after draining again, with 3/4 cup sugar for every cup of peel originally measured. Put over slow fire until sugar is melted; do not use any water this time, let cook slowly until all syrup cooks away. Remove from fire; roll in granulated sugar.





GLAZED GRAPEFRUIT


2 fresh grapefruit, cut in 1/2


1/2 c. brown sugar


1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon





Sprinkle sugar and cinnamon over halved fruit. Broil 4-inches from heat 5 minutes. Check frequently. Serve. Serves 4.





GRAPEFRUIT TEA


1 qt. boiling water


3 reg. size tea bags


2 reg.-size mint tea bags


3/4 c. sugar


1/2 c. lemon juice


3/4 c. grapefruit juice


1 qt. cold water





Pour boiling water over tea bags; cover and steep 5 minutes. Remove tea bags, squeezing gently. Add sugar and remaining ingredients. Serve over ice. Yield: 2 quarts.





GRAPEFRUIT TEASERS


Dip grapefruit sections in melted butter, roll in crushed cereal flakes, broil for a few minutes until crisp at high temperature. Insert toothpicks into each. This makes an attractive garnish for a cheese platter or as a topping for a crisp salad. You may also use large orange slices or apple slices.
