How about some Cawl - this is a Welsh dish.





You can use lamb, beef or chicken pieces





A variety of root vegetables such as


carrots


parsnips


swede


onions





Potatoes


Tin green beans (small)


Tin peas (small)





Plain flour or cornflower to thicken.





Put your meat and chopped onions in cold water


Slowly bring to the boil, and then simmer.





Add your root vegetables, and potatoes and continue to simmer until all the veg are cooked.





Add your tin vegetables.





Mix two tablespoons of the plain flour or corn flour with a little water, until smooth, and add to the stew.





Simmer for 5 minutes longer.





Turn off heat.

Chasen's Restaurant in Beverly Hills used to serve something like this. A one dish meal:





Browned ground meat (beef, pork or I suppose turkey), seasoned with onion, garlic, salt and pepper.





then add washed and chopped spinach,





then add eggs. Cook by stirring until the eggs are cooked;





add parmensan cheese if you like. Make a lot, it's good left over, even for breakfast.
VEGETARIAN CHILI





2 cans ( 15 oz) pinto beans, rinsed and drained


1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes


1 can (16 oz) kidney beans,rinsed and drained


1 can (15-1/2 oz) hominy, rinsed and drained


1 can (15oz) garbanzo beans, rinsed and drained


1 can (6oz) tomato paste


1 can (4oz) chopped green chilies


2 small zucchini, halved and thinly sliced


1 medium onion, chopped


1-1/2 to 2 cups water


1 to 2 tablespoons chili powder


1 teaspoon ground cumin


1 teaspoon salt, optional


1/2 teaspoon garlic powder


1/2 teaspoon sugar


1/2 cup shredded Montery Jack cheese





1. In large pot combine first 15 ingredients; mix well. Bring to a boil.





2. Reduce heat; cover and simmer for 30-35 minutes. Sprinkle with cheese.


Yield:12 servings (about 3 quarts).

Poppy seed Chicken


1lb or 4 breast of chicken


2 cans Cream of Chicken of Soup


1 small tub of sour cream


1 Tbsp poppy seeds


1 sleeve of Ritz crackers, crumbled





Cook chicken in frying pan. Mix the other ingredients with the chicken and a separate bowl. Place chicken mixture in a 13x9 pan. Cook at 350 for 25 minutes or until golden brown around the edges and bubbly.





It is very yummy, you can add cheese on top and few few extra crumbled on top. Good luck
Williamsburg Chicken, as served at London Town Public House





Ingredients:


1 Envelope unflavored gelatin


4 c Chicken, cooked, diced


1 c Canned peas, drained


1 1/2 c Mayonnaise


1/3 c Pecans, chopped


2 Eggs, hard cooked, chopped


1 bunch Green grapes for garnish


2 c Celery, diced


1/2 c Stuffed olives, sliced


2 T Lemon juice


Salt %26amp; pepper to taste


1/4 t Leaf thyme


1 1/2 c Chicken broth


1 Oil





Method:


1-Oil a 10'; X 13'; pan.


2-Soften the gelatin in a little cold water or chicken broth.


3-Place over low heat and stir until it dissolves. Cool and stir in lemon juice, salt, pepper and thyme. fix well into the broth and mayonnaise.


4-Add all other ingredients (except grapes) n pour into pan. Place in refrigerator overnight or for several hours until set.


5-Decorate with halved grapes and serve over salad greens.





Hyderabadi Biryani





Ingredients:


Basmati rice: 1 lb


Tender lamb with bone (use some pieces from the ribs): 1.5 - 2 lb


Onions: 2


Ginger and garlic powders: 3/4 tb each


Green chillies: 2-3


Cinnamon: 1 stick


Cardamom pods: 6


Cloves: 6-8


Coriander leaves: Half a handful


Red chilly powder: 1/2 ts


Yogurt: 3/4 cup


Salt: 1 ts (more if you wish)








The Steps:


Pre - Preparation :


1) Split the chillies into 2 and break the cinnamon into 3-4 pieces.


2) Crush the cardamom pods by hand.


3) Fry onions till golden brown.


4) Take out of the oil and save the oil.


5) Mix the meat pieces with the onion, some of the oil, ginger, garlic,


chillies, cinnamon, cardamom, cloves, coriander, chilly powder,


salt and yogurt.


6) Keep the above mix standing for about 4 hrs in the fridge.





Preparation :


1) Boil the rice in twice as much water, till it is halfway cooked.Drain.


2) Place the mix at the bottom of a baking pan.


3) Spread the rice on top of the mix.


4) Heat up a pinch of saffron in half a cup of milk, and spread the


milk around on top.


5) Cover the pan with its cover, or aluminum foil.


6) Heat the oven to 400, and bake for about 45-60 mins.


7) Check after 45 mins -- for doneness of meat --


some like it a little chewy, others soft.


8) Some people like to pour pure ghee on the mix --


while this makes it richer, it's not necessary.








Stir Fry Orange Chicken


Ingredients:





1.Orange juice鈥︹€︹€︹€︹€︹€︹€︹€︹€︹€︹€︹€? cup


2.Orange zest (grated) 鈥︹€︹€︹€︹€︹€︹€︹€︹€?1 tablespoon


3.Soy sauce鈥︹€︹€︹€︹€︹€︹€︹€︹€︹€︹€︹€︹€?/4 cup


4.Salt鈥︹€︹€︹€︹€︹€︹€︹€︹€︹€︹€︹€︹€︹€︹€?.1 teaspoon


5.Garlic (chopped)鈥︹€︹€︹€︹€︹€︹€︹€︹€︹€?3 cloves


6.Brown sugar鈥︹€︹€︹€︹€︹€︹€︹€︹€︹€︹€︹€? tablespoon


7.Vegetable oil鈥︹€︹€︹€︹€︹€︹€︹€︹€︹€︹€?. 3 tablespoons


8.Skinless boneless chicken breast halves (cut into 1 inch cubes)鈥?. 4


9.All-purpose flour鈥︹€︹€︹€︹€︹€︹€︹€︹€︹€?2 tablespoons


10.Bean sprouts (optional)鈥︹€︹€︹€︹€︹€︹€︹€? cup


11.Crispy chowmein noodles鈥︹€︹€︹€︹€︹€︹€? (6 ounce) package





Method:





1-In a small bowl add the orange juice, orange zest, soy sauce, salt, garlic and brown sugar. Mix well.


2.Heat oil in a large skillet or wok over medium high heat. When oil begins to bubble, add chicken. Saute until cooked through (no longer pink inside), about 7 to 10 minutes.


3.Add orange sauce mixture to chicken and cook until sauce begins to bubble.Add flour, a little bit at a time, until sauce gets thickened.


4.Add bean sprouts and cook for 1 minute.


5.Serve hot over chow mein noodles.

Taco Salad

Recipe for taco salad with lean ground beef and corn chips, along with taco sauce and cheese.


INGREDIENTS:


1 pound lean ground beef


1/2 envelope onion soup mix, about 1/4 cup


3/4 cup water


a few dashes hot pepper sauce


1 medium head lettuce, shredded, about 4 cups


1 cup shredded sharp Jack or Cheddar cheese


1 large tomato, chopped


1/2 cup sliced black olives


1/4 cup chopped green bell pepper


2 cups corn chips


taco sauce





PREPARATION:


Brown beef in a heavy skillet; drain off excess fat. Sprinkle onion soup mix over beef and stir in water. Simmer, uncovered, until liquid cooks away, about 8 to 12 minutes. Stir in hot pepper sauce.


In a large bowl, combine shredded lettuce, shredded cheese, tomato, olives, and green bell pepper; toss.


For each serving, place lettuce mixture on salad plate or bowl, top with some of the meat mixture and garnish taco salad with corn chops. Serve with taco salad with taco sauce.


This taco salad serves 4 to 6.


For homemade corn taco chips, cut corn tortillas into strips and fry briefly in hot oil and use as the garnish for taco salad.
